I would say to buy another brand for mine broke with very little use after the warranty expired.I thought I would give Dewalt another chance since this is made in the USA. Usually I buy Makita or Milwaukee but save your money on this chuck unless you have money to burn.
going through 2 2x4s to run romex. I know this is not an isolated problem (see other reviewer here with same issue).
When it works it's a darn handy device. but it has always had a tendency to stick.
I've used it for years. I'm not done trying to remove it, but it's a huge wast of time.
A couple of times it stuck with a bit tightened in the chuck and I was able to release it after great effort. Now it is jammed tight with an expensive forstner bit in it.
It seems to happen after any relatively burly drilling (e.g. But hey, that's what the thing is supposed to do -- drill with a cordless drill/impact driver.
have used these DeWalt chucks quite a bit in my line of work as a union tinner. even when it was working, i found it to be a PITA to get a bit in and out of it. had our tool crib send one out and it lasted two days before it crapped out on me. sent it back for a replacement and the same thing happened to the replacement, turns out one of the three jaws would get jammed and not align with the others when tightening. a coworker of mine has a unibit permanently locked in his, unable to get the bit out, he now has to deal with dead weight of a locked DeWalt chuck on his expensive unibit. for all the aggravation i'd much rather deal with a keyed chuck, or if you've got the coin, spring for the Hitachi chuck.
